Listing out the 5 best upcoming RPGs 2024 is quite a difficult task on my end as there will be quite a few of these releasing in 2024. Role-playing games (RPGs) are a genre of video games that allow players to immerse themselves in rich, detailed worlds filled with adventure, intrigue, and more. From exploring vast open landscapes to battling fearsome monsters, RPGs offer an escape into a world of fantasy and excitement.

In 2023, the gaming community was treated to an impressive lineup of RPGs across various platforms, including PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, and PC. Each game offered unique gameplay mechanics, immersive storytelling, and stunning graphics that transported players to exciting new worlds. And that trend is sure to continue in 2024 with all the games confirmed so far. In light of that, I have decided to list my ‘5 Best Upcoming RPGs 2024’.

With the release of the most hyped game of the year Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, the gaming community experienced a smooth experience. The release of Hogwarts Legacy, Final Fantasy XVI, Baldur’s Gate 3, Alan Wake 2 and other games was a thrilling roller coaster ride for gamers. Not to forget the late 2022 released God of War: Ragnarok which was still rocking this year too. The game is scheduled to be released in March 2024 for PlayStation 5, Windows, and Xbox Series X/S. After a decade of waiting, fans of this series are finally getting a sequel which they were waiting for. So, it deserves a spot in the list of ‘5 Best Upcoming RPGs 2024’.

Persona 3 Reload has retained its core gameplay, which is a hybrid of traditional role-playing and social simulation. However, it has undergone a significant overhaul in terms of aesthetics, graphics, and mechanics.

The game now seamlessly integrates new systems and features that have been introduced to the Persona series since the release of the original Persona 3, while staying true to the series’ commitment to quality. The next chapter of Tekken is here with fully redesigned and exceptional fighters. The highly-anticipated fighting game, which is being co-developed by Bandai Namco Studios & Arika and published by Bandai Namco Entertainment, will be the eighth main and tenth overall instalment in the Tekken series. The game has been scheduled to be released on January 26, 2024.

#2: Black Myth Wukong: Releasing Platforms: PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X and Series S, Microsoft Windows. The game already has won the best visuals at Gamescom. Black Myth Wukong is an action role-playing game that has been in development by the Chinese game developer, Game Science, since 2016.

The game is based on the classic 16th-century Chinese novel, Journey to the West, and follows the story of Sun Wukong, the Monkey King, on his journey to seek enlightenment and adventure. Black Myth Wukong features a vast open-world environment with diverse landscapes, ranging from lush forests to desolate wastelands. The game includes an array of challenging enemies, intricately designed boss battles, and an innovative combat system that allows players to use a variety of weapons, magic, and techniques.

#1: Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth: Releasing Platforms: PlayStation 5. The ‘5 Best Upcoming RPGs 2024’ list would have been incomplete without this big name taking the top spot. The inclusion of these titles in the ‘5 Best Upcoming RPGs 2024’ list was a difficult task for me as there are more popular and interesting titles out there waiting to be released in 2024.  Yes, there might be different and multiple opinions about the selected list and it is understandable. However, I have my reasons for picking them and they are by no means shallow. On that note, I’m going to explain the reasons for each title to be in the ‘5Best Upcoming RPGs 2024’ list individually.

The inclusion of Dragon’s Dogma 2 in the ‘5 Best Upcoming RPGs 2024’ list might be surprising for some. The series is not as highly popular as God of War or other big titles but it’s a popular one yet not played by the vast majority. The devoted fanbase of this series was still concerned about the mediocre interface, but Capcom is promising fans something better. With a story that takes place in a parallel world to the original, the game is already setting up the moods for the fans.

Persona games have a huge fanbase especially from the anime community, for their unique game style and art. The famous Persona 3 Reload JRPG is not just a normal remaster, it’s going to be a fulfilling experience with a nostalgia trip of course. The social link system will enable the gamer to have multiple possibilities for different routes. Tekken 8 is forever a beloved game on different platforms and a classic outing for gamers. The newest addition of Panda and Kuma in Tekken 8 is now the talk of the town. Kuma will have a new visual in Tekken 8 and the gameplay for Kuma has already been released. It’ll be an interesting adventure for gamers to experience the story revolving around Kazuya and Jin’s relationship. The title rightfully has a place in the ‘5 Best Upcoming RPGs 2024’ list.

The inclusion of Black Myth Wukong in the ‘5 Best Upcoming RPGs 2024’ list is obvious. The stunning graphics and visuals of the title have already won the hearts of many and the mesmerizing action sequences with different creatures are going to be a never-forgotten experience and that’s for sure.

Last but not least, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth makes it to the top without any doubt. The prequel of the series, Final Fantasy 7 remake was a successful release from Square Enix. We got to experience Cloud vs Sephiroth fight in top-notch visuals and they are making it to the next sequel. Tetsuya Nomura, the director of both Kingdom Hearts and Finan Fantasy has already said that the story will be interesting and if Tetsuya Nomura the story genius is saying that, it will be. Rebirth will be focusing more on freedom and exploration.
