Spy X Family Season 2, Radiant Anya Returns

Spy X Family Season 2 is right around the corner to be released this fall. The troublesome family returns with a second season of the anime series and a movie. What do I, as a fan think will happen? Am I excited? Let’s find out.

Spy X Family Knowhow

Spy × Family is a Japanese action-adventure manga series written and illustrated by Tatsuya Endo. The story follows Agent Twilight, WISE’s top spy who has been assigned the hardest mission of his life. To “build a family” in order to execute a mission. In his haste, he fails to realize that the girl he adopts as his daughter is a telepath, and the woman he agrees to marry is a skilled assassin. What follows is a family of three, each with their own secrets and their attempts to hide them, unaware of the other’s secret.

The series currently has 11 Volumes and has an anime adaptation, consisting of 25 episodes split into two parts. It has a sequel named Spy X Family Season 2 coming along with a movie and a musical production in the works. But for the sake of the article, I’ll focus on the first two for now.

Spy X Family Season 2: What To Expect?

Like Loid Forger aka Twilight, this is one of my hardest assignments to deal with, as I had some personal problems going on. But as I had been tasked with this mission, I will see through it till the end by dissecting the probabilities and possibilities of Spy X Family Season 2.

Season 1 of Spy X Family ends with the most anticipated moment of the anime. That is Loid getting in contact with his target, Donovan Desmond, Chairman of the Desmond Group and someone rumored to be attempting to spark a war between Ostania and Westalis. Not gonna lie, this moment was pulled off much better in the manga. But that doesn’t mean it was terrible in the Anime, no! It’s just a matter of perspective, and having prior knowledge regarding the material didn’t help. But the moment was no less thrilling. It had its own way to captivate its audience.

Spy X Family Season 2 will start from where it left off. And honestly, like Anya, I forgot where. But I haven’t forgotten the moments. Just like how people were clamoring for Nightfall’s appearance in the Anime, there are a plethora of Manga moments I’d like to see animated. One of them is, Loid aka Twilight’s backstory and how he came to be “Agent Twilight,” along with the introduction of the matriarch of the Desmond Family and her friendship with Yor.

Similarly, we have one of the most exciting arcs coming in Spy X Family Season 2 that can surpass the Terrorist Arc, and like it, it is another Movie-worthy arc. And that is the Cruise ship Arc. What happens in that Arc? Well, Anya and Loid win a ticket to a Cruise ship. And coincidentally, Yor has a “job” involving that Cruise, which will be her last job. What follows is the family’s usual antics, mixed with a plethora of assassins after Yor and hilarious coming timing. Spy X Family Season 2 is set to arrive on October 2023, two months before the release of the film.

SPY X Family CODE: White; What Is The Deal?

With Tatsuya Endo releasing two movie-worthy arcs in SPYxFamily with WIT STUDIO and CloverWorks, having missed the mark with both of them, you may think this anime-original production provides something similar. But no, they didn’t. While researching, I found the plot of the film. And honestly speaking, I am very disappointed. The plot goes like this,

“Loid decides to enter Anya into a cooking competition to win another prestigious Eden Academy Stella. Determined to have her learn how to make the principal’s favourite dessert, the Forgers embark on a confectionary-themed journey that will see Anya’s curiosity get the whole family into some serious trouble.”

Cooking Competition? With a name like “CODE: White,” you’d expect them to have a vacation in some snowy mountainside, only to have it challenged by some terrorist or assassins or both. And it would leave our favorite family to defend their well-earned vacation time. And possibly fight a Yeti in the process. I’d pay to see this type of film. But no. The best they could provide was a cooking competition. Really?

You got two movie-worthy arcs, only to have them used in the Anime. Well, they didn’t disappoint with the Terrorist Arc, and hopefully they won’t do it with Cruise Ship Arc. But seriously? How will you add action to a cooking competition? It sounds like a filler movie at best. But given that WIT STUDIO and CloverWorks didn’t disappoint with SPY X Family with just one season divided into two parts, I hope they have something hidden in their sleeves with this Movie. Not to mention, Spy X Family Season 2 has yet to beat the Sequel Curse of the Anime.

What Else Is Cooking?

Now, I did say that Spy X Family is getting a Musical coming up. But I didn’t bother with it because it’s a theatrical musical production taking place in Japan. So, unless anyone of us from the Deshi Geek Family is going to Japan, we won’t be getting any info on the Musical.

Till then we are left with the expectations of the upcoming season and the film. And I personally hope they both do well. This year, as an otaku, I’ve faced some disappointments in some anime. Both of them came from a juggernaut that challenged the Manga industry and their fanbase, and I even wrote an article regarding one of them. And having completed the first season, and read the entire manga, I do not want the show to fall victim to the curse. Nor do I want the movie to fail. Even though it is an anime-original story.

In short, I have my disagreements, like all the otakus out there. But unlike all the other otakus, it is my job to deliver a non-biased opinion with no toxicity. And therefore, I hold the responsibility for delivering those arguments in the most neutral way possible.

Where was I again? Oh yeah, have high hopes for Spy X Family Season 2 and not that much for the film, had it chosen a material from the manga like Demon Slayer did, but still rooting for it. And on that note, check out my Demon Sayer Season 3 review!

Baka_Taku

If my name didn't give it away, I am a Baka and an Otaku. And, I do a pretty good job at being both of them. More often than not at the same time.
