Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 is set to arrive on July 6, 2023. And it is estimated to be another hit from MAPPA since Jujutsu Kaisen 0, Chainsaw Man and Vinland Saga Season 2.

What You Need To Know

Jujutsu Kaisen is an Anime Television Series based on the Manga of the same name by Mangaka, Gege Akutami. It has released one season, one prequel movie and 22 manga volumes as of March 3, 2023. And the second edition of the series Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 is coming soon.

The story centers around Yuji Itadori, a high schooler who comes across a cursed object, Sukuna’s finger. In order to save his friends, Yuji ends up consuming the cursed object and becomes a host for the High-Grade Cursed Spirit known as, Ryomen Sukuna.

Sentenced to death by the Tokyo Jujutsu Academy, Yuji’s execution is indefinitely postponed by Gojo Satoru (aka Daddy), who takes him under his wing to train him as a Jujutsu Sorcerer and have him consume all 20 of Sukuna’s fingers in order to eliminate Ryomen Sukuna once and for all.

Why You Should Watch Jujutsu Kaisen

Now, if any of you have read my review of JJK Season 1 on MAL under the same handle, you know that I would suggest JJK for one reason only. And that is Gojo Satoru. The man is so SUGOI!!!! That I forgave all the pet peeves I had with the show. But I was still not kind enough not to point out the shortcomings of the show. Granted, it was just one season and it was hyped AF by the Fans. Mostly because of MAPPA’s Kami-Level Animation Style and the Sugoi-factor of Gojo.

But still, faults are faults, and JJK Season 1 had a few of them. First, I’ll start with the protagonist Yuji Itadori. Now Shonen Anime has a trope of making their protagonists dumb and stupid in order to make them relatable with their audience. But I found Yuji’s foolishness on a whole new level. Let’s talk about his motivation. Motivation is key for all Shonen Anime protagonists. Or else they wouldn’t be Shonen Anime. Naruto wants to be a Hokage, Luffy wants to be The Pirate King, and Goku wants to be The Strongest Fighter out there.

Even newer Shonens have improved upon the concept of motivation with by far my favorite one being Kamado Tanjiro of Kimetsu no Yaiba (aka Demon Slayer). The dude wants to turn his human-turned-demon sister back into a human. He doesn’t want to be a Hashira or the Strongest Demon Slayer out there. He just wants his old simple life back. And that’s not only relatable but also something that we can get behind off.

And then there is Yuji’s Motivation, to give people proper death. What does that even mean? If only I knew! Even the protagonists of Old Shonen have their motivations explained to us on a crystal-clear level, and with just one sentence. And Yuji? I doubt he can explain it in a paragraph. I’d like to see him try.

Next was the ending. A common problem with all seasonal anime is that in order to make the episode list to the exact number, sometimes they rush an entire arc worth of story which has a lot of depth to it. For that particular reason, the last few episodes of JJK felt rushed. If you ask me, they should have ended it in the baseball game with Kyoto Jujutsu Academy. And that’s why I am reading the manga to better understand that arc. What happens in that arc you might ask?

All three of the main cast get some much-needed character development and displays a great deal of feat which could have been better pulled off had it not been rushed at the pace of a Bullet Train. They made “seemingly knock-off” characters feel like original creations and had them have the moment they desperately needed but often get outshined by their superior mentor known as Daddy, I mean Gojo.

Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2

Before I talk about Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2, I need to clear up some things. I read the JJK manga (or at least finished it where season 1 ended), which means I may or may not know what we may get to see in JJK Season 2. But I’ll say this, we’ll get to see stuff that we got hints of in the prequel movie. That is the relationship between Geto and Gojo.

The first half of Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 will take place during Gojo’s time as a second-year student at Tokyo Jujutsu High. With him will Geto Suguru, be the series antagonist?! He will not only be Gojo’s classmate but also his best friend. This can explain the dynamic between Geto and Gojo and how they went from Brothers-in-arms to Arch-enemies.

The second half of Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 is said to focus on the much-anticipated Shibuya Incident Arc, which had been teased throughout Season 1 and the manga. Geto’s plan regarding Shibuya includes two vital parts. They are: entrapping Gojo Satoru in a Specialized Seal made just for him and winning the trust of Ryomen Sukuna by offering him the remaining fingers hidden throughout the city.

In season 1, Geto, Hanami and Mahito enacted a plan to steal Sukuna’s fingers that are in the custody of Tokyo Jujutsu High, which they succeeded in snatching. And in the final episode, their allies made from the cursed objects stolen by Mahito were tasked with finding the remaining fingers of Sukuna, which were (unintentionally) consumed by Yuji Itadori.

It is unclear where Jututsu Kaisen Season 2 will end, but we can say that it will have 24 episodes. With the first half left to explain the dynamic between Gojo and Geto, will we see the entrapment and release (SPOILER!!! But it’s also public news. LOL) of Gojo from his seal in the Shibuya Incident Arc? Or will it be left on a cliffhanger? And will we get to see Okkotsu Yuta who was mentioned in Season 1 and teased in the prequel movie to appear in Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2? Only time will tell.
