While there are lots of different categories that fall under this loop, the animated series section has seen a sudden rise. As for ‘Top 5’ features you should also check out – 5 Best Romance Anime, 5 Best Animation Films, and 5 Best Horror Films.
While we know that Netflix is great for its series and people love to hop on whatever is trending on it, whether with family or alone, we should not underestimate their content for the animated series section. And I am not talking about anime; otherwise, we would be here all day. Well, anime titles are the most popular ones. Apart from Anime or Animated movies, here’s 5 Best Netflix Animated Series you must watch.
Arcane: League of Legends is known by gamers and non-gamers alike. Even if you might have never played it, you will come across their popular songs like KDA Popstar, amazing or fun gameplays and general memes. LoL is welcomed in Esports and is globally recognized. But what does League of Legends have to do with Arcane? Well, Arcane is the Animated series that brings up the crazy stories of the characters we play in the game.
It was a major hit when it first debuted in November 2021 and people went crazy over the backstory and how drastically the characters had a switch of personality. We saw them in a dynamic spectrum where we gradually started to emotionally connect to those characters – Jinx being the perfect example. Arcane takes the very first spot in the ‘5 Best Netflix Animated Series’ list.
The Dragon Prince: If you are familiar with RWBY, chances are you will like this, because not only does the animation style look identical to theirs, the set of adventure and mystery is quite similar if not technically better. This story will not leave you hanging with unexplained questions but rather put everything out there and take you on their journey. You will understand the objective of their adventure yet experience the whole quest.
The Dragon Prince quickly became a favorite for its captivating storytelling, character development and fantasy world-building. The story follows a mystical land where magic is derived from the primal sources of the sun, moon, stars, earth, and ocean. The land is divided between the magical realm of Xadia and the human kingdoms. It takes second spot in the ‘5 Best Netflix Animated Series’ list.
Terminator Zero: Who hasn’t heard of the Terminator movies? Although there are many parts of the franchise and it is debated which of them were up to that high standard, we have to agree that for its time it was really advanced and unique. The movies were easily something that one got obsessed over or straight up feared its existence as the concept of machines taking over the world remains in serious debate.
Terminator Zero is set in the year 2040 which is exactly two years after the events of the movie Terminator: Dark Fate. Similar to the films, the series follows a young resistance fighter named Kai, who discovers a prototype Terminator with the ability to evolve and adapt beyond Skynet’s original programming. This super hyped series takes third spot in the ‘5 Best Netflix Animated Series’ list.
Blue Eye Samurai: We all have witnessed something that features a Samurai. With the popularity of Samurai Jack, Rurouni Kenshin, Samurai Champloo etc. we have come across a very cool, very demure type of figure that is a Samurai. Everything about a Samurai is just awesome, from looks to his actions, his postures, dialogues and style of living. They become this mysterious figure who is respected and loved by watchers.
Blue Eye Samurai is set in a fictional version of feudal Japan and it blends historical elements with fantasy to create a unique and engaging story for us. The inclusion of a semi-truthful plot helps us to feel more connected to the story. Like the title suggests we have a skilled and enigmatic samurai with striking blue eyes who is on a quest for revenge. This one takes fourth spot in the ‘5 Best Netflix Animated Series’ list.
Love, Death & Robots: If you are anything like me, you might complain that I am too busy to start something of longer lore. Well, I have a suggestion you might like. Love, Death & Robots is an animated anthology series on Netflix. Similar to the Black Mirror, a series featuring real-life crises, it represents them metaphorically with supernatural and fantasy elements. It has diverse stories, innovative animation styles and exploration of various genres.
Although the series is long with the 4th season on its way, each episode is a standalone story. These episodes range from science fiction and fantasy to horror or comedy, showcasing a wide array of stories but with different morals. The series blends traditional 2D animation with CGI and other visual styles that offer a unique look. This one takes the fifth spot in the ‘5 Best Netflix Animated Series’ list.
Animation is unique while the grey tone incorporates 2D and 3D style animation with rich story building. Arcane delves into the lives of iconic characters from the game. The narrative is deeply layered, combining political intrigue, personal drama, and action. Character development is robust, offering a nuanced portrayal of both heroes and villains. No wonder it took first place in my ‘5 Best Netflix Animated Series’ list.
The Dragon Prince is very rich with moral teachings as it explores themes of prejudice, redemption, unity across cultural divides and survival tactics. The world is also very huge which allows us viewers to explore and discover more. If you love fantasy and adventure stories, this series is a very good one to stay on your watch list as it took second place in my ‘5 Best Netflix Animated Series’ list.
A post-apocalyptic world, the origin of the Terminator prototypes and the struggle against Skynet’s influence make Terminator Zero exciting. The animation design emphasized the gritty, dystopian atmosphere and the sleek yet menacing aesthetics of the Terminators. This series brings us a fresh perspective while staying true to the core, making it the third-place holder in my ‘5 Best Netflix Animated Series’ list.
Blue Eye Samurai has a 2D Animation style and the color palette is vibrant with dynamic action sequences to make it more exciting. As the animation captures both the historical essence and the fantastical, it also addresses the clash between tradition and modern changes. Thus, it appeals to fans of historical fantasy but also in general the fans of Samurais. It deserves its place in my ‘5 Best Netflix Animated Series’ list.
Love, Death & Robots covers a broad spectrum of themes like hauntings, technology and its impact, mythology and the evolution of human nature in sync with the postmodern world which covers darker aspects of human behavior, ethics and existential questions. The most dynamic thing that we find is that the narrative remains a mystery. No wonder it gets a spot in my ‘5 Best Netflix Animated Series’ list.
