This time I’m here with the ‘Top 5’ list of the ‘5 Best Animation Films to Watch in 2024’. Before this one, I wrote two such features on – Romance Anime and Horror Films. The long-standing ‘Top 5’ features are proving to be a huge hit and I wanted more of the action. Also, the topic of ‘Animation Films’ surely ignited the writing spirit within me.
I believe we all have been a bit distant from watching animated films, but maybe this year can be the year to change that. 2024 is crawling with great titles from the much-coveted genre. Mufasa – The Lion King: This upcoming movie, Mufasa: The Lion King is an American musical film that is directed by Barry Jenkins, written by Jeff Nathanson and produced by Walt Disney Pictures combined with Pastel Productions. It is intended to be live-action styled, and photorealistic computer-generated imagery will be used in this prequel. Similar to the one created in 2019 and the original 1994 film. The film is set to be released in theaters on December 20, 2024, by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures and it takes the fifth spot on my list of ‘5 Best Animation Films to Watch in 2024’.
Despicable Me 4: As the animated film industry continues to evolve, one movie stands out for its ability to charm audiences with its lovable characters, witty humor and heartwarming stories. It contains our banana loving, hilarious yellow buddies the minions. People all over the world even wore a suit to see them in theatres which can be possible again upon this release. Yes, I’m talking about Despicable Me 4 by Universal Pictures. Fans are waiting for its release with bated breaths and I had to give it the fourth spot in the ‘5 Best Animation Films to Watch in 2024’ list.
The Imaginary: I have already covered everything you need to know about this in my previous article and I’m excited to say that this is the one movie I am super stoked about that will be coming soon! This animated film will be something different, you won’t be able to call it a straight-up Anime but rather something along the lines of Stand by Me Doraemon aesthetics. The Studio Ponoc production has already been released and is available on Netflix.

The Lord of the Rings – The War of the Rohirrim: The franchise of The Lord of the Rings is a rather huge one and the upcoming animated film is directed by Kenji Kamiyama from a screenplay by Phoebe Gittins and Arty Papageorgiou. This will be again based on the story told in the appendices of the novel, The Lord of the Rings by J. R. R. Tolkien. It is produced by Warner Bros and it will serve as a prequel of a plot set 261 years before the events depicted in the original films.
