Call Us!

It’s time for the ‘5 Best Upcoming Fantasy Series 2024’. The Top 5 Journey is still ongoing, with many topics to go around. We’ve already covered KDrama twice; Anime, Movies and Video Games. And this time we’re going into the realm of Web-series, again. But this time it’s Fantasy Series. Sure, the entries you’ll see here might have been in the previous few Top 5’s, but that just shows how popular and anticipated that show is and will be till it hits the screen.

The Selection process for each of the shows was not easy and I almost featured a “Walking Dead” Romance Series that features the return of Andrew Lincoln as Rick Grimes. But the entries I have featured are no less “Fantastic.” Now without further ado, let’s begin.

The Definition Of Fantasy

According to Oxford Languages, “the faculty or activity of imagining impossible or improbable things,” is defined as Fantasy. But what does it mean? If I were to say that “a horse could fly,” it would be impossible and would fall into the realm of Fantasy. But if I were to say that “Humans can fly,” it won’t be impossible. Because the Wright Brothers proved it.

All jokes aside, we can say that Fantasy is defined as imagining things that would be impossible or improbable in the real world and hence fantasy could be anything as long as it is not real. But most Fantasy-genre hits are more on the grounded level or they are a representation of the real world. Take J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter or J.R.R. Tolkien’s Hobbit and The Lord of The Rings for example. Both writers expressed their darkest thoughts in a fantasy world setting that seems impossible or improbable to everyone, but not to them.

That’s why this article on ‘5 Best Upcoming Fantasy Series 2024’ has some entries that may not fall in the realm of Fantasy. But if the writers used as an example may show anything, it’s that Fantasy is not Definitive, it’s Subjective and varies on the author and creators. Hence, my Musafir falls in the Fantasy realm.

5 Best Upcoming Fantasy Series 2024 You Should Be Excited For

#1 Dead Boy Detectives: Who likes detective stories? Who likes paranormal stories? Who would like to see a mix of both? Dead Boy Detectives is just that. Created by Neil Gaiman of the Sandman fame, the story features two boys who’d rather solve Supernatural Crimes than go to the afterlife, it is one of the last few good offerings from DC’s TV show Universe, as it spun off from Doom Patrol. The series takes the first spot in my list of ‘5 Best Upcoming Fantasy Series 2024’. It was originally supposed to air on Max, but was picked up by Netflix in February 2023 and will premiere on April 2024.

#2 Army of The Dead – Lost Vegas: Does anyone remember Zack Snyder’s Army of the Dead? Well, this is the feature-length prequel spin-off that shows how they lost Vegas to a Zombie Apocalypse. I mean it was shown in the intro, and that was cool. But who knows what Zack Snyder is cooking, sometimes he creates really good stuff, and sometimes meh. Nonetheless, a Zack Snyder directorial definitely deserves a spot in the ‘5 Best Upcoming Fantasy Series 2024’ list. Many of the original cast along with Dave Bautista, Tig Notaro and Ella Purnell are returning.

#3 Avatar – The Last Airbender: You’re not surprised. I am not surprised. Of course, this made it to the list of ‘5 Best Upcoming Fantasy Series 2024’, and it would be a crime to not feature this on the list. I’ll skip on explaining what ATLA is because everybody knows it, and if you don’t then (either bury yourself alive or,) read the article that I wrote about ATLA. But I will say this, my only hope is that the vision of Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko is given justice in Live Action which the film had failed to do. It will premiere on Netflix on February 22, 2024.

#4 God of War: We already got the Last of Us Web Series, and that was phenomenal. Now, it’s time for another great to be given the same treatment and naturally is in the ‘5 Best Upcoming Fantasy Series 2024’ list. And surprisingly God of War is the contender. It will follow the events of God of War (2018) after Kratos ruined Greece in his pursuit of vengeance and now spends his life in the Norse Realm of Midgard with his son by his side. Fans are petitioning for Christopher Judge to portray Kratos, who has lent his talents for both games. But in my opinion, Dave Bautista would do the character more justice.

#5 Fallout: The last entry on my list of ‘5 Best Upcoming Fantasy Series 2024’. Fallout tells the tale of a Nuclear “Fallout” and explores the life of humanity following this crisis. People are recommended to play Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas to get an idea of the story. The cast features Ella Purnell in the lead role along with Walter Goggins. In this day and age of well-executed video game adaptation, I hope the series will be done justice because it has a rich story to tell. It will premiere on Amazon Prime on April 12, 2024.

5 Best Upcoming Fantasy Series 2024 Selection Reasons

I won’t go over all of my reasons in a serial order for this list of ‘5 Best Upcoming Fantasy Series 2024’. But I will explain each and/or all of them in a detailed order, and some may be explained together because they share the same reasons. So, with that let’s begin the reasoning behind my choices.

Avatar The Last Airbender was an obvious choice. It has been hyped since 2020 and fans, including myself, are dying to see Di Martino and Konietzko’s vision in Live Action. Sure M. Night Shyamalan didn’t do a good job, but he is not a bad director. He was just not suited for that piece. And sure, Di Martino and Konietzko are no longer involved with the project, but they are pretty confident about the show and we share their enthusiasm. Hence, I selected it as one of the ‘5 Best Upcoming Fantasy Series 2024’.

Dead Boy Detectives and Lost Vegas were not my first choices for the ‘5 Best Upcoming Fantasy Series 2024’ list. I was not well versed in the concept of “Fantasy” since in my head it was limited to Swords and Magic. But as I researched the genre, I was able to find these two gems. As mentioned, Dead Boy Detectives has spun off from Doom Patrol. And if I have heard anything regarding Doom Patrol, it was never anything bad, and with a plot similar to Supernatural, of course, I’d be excited for this.

As for Lost Vegas, The Army of The Dead is a surprisingly good film with very good spin-offs and materials coming out of it. Which means, it has a well-crafted lore behind it. And if there’s a prequel movie regarding the Nevada Zombie Outbreak which we saw during the opening credits, then it must have something better to offer than the Walking Dead spin-off that I chose not to include.

Video Game Adaptation was once considered a dead genre with nothing but failures in its wake. But it was proven wrong with Detective Pikachu and Sonic the Hedgehog, and since then Video Game Adaptations have become the next lucrative product. And with the web-series format, video game content and lore have more room to tell their story than an hour’s worth of runtime. That’s why I included both God of War and Fallout in the list of ‘5 Best Upcoming Fantasy Series 2024’.

My Earnest Wish

Fantasy is not Definitive, it’s Subjective, and that’s what I came to learn when I started writing this article on ‘5 Best Upcoming Fantasy Series 2024’. My outlook on Fantasy was limited to Swords and Magic, which fueled me to write Musafir. With my outlook on the genre expanded, I hope that it will help me write a better story than I initially envisioned.

And with that very outlook, I wrote this article. It has been a while since I have written an article, hence I might’ve been rough here and there. But I hope I was able to convey a compelling case for the entries I have provided and hope that neither of them disappoint you. And of course, I will be watching them as well.

If my name didn't give it away, I am a Baka and an Otaku. And, I do a pretty good job at being both of them. More often than not at the same time.
