I have written about Jujutsu Kaisen, Demon Slayer, and Spy X Family before, so, it is a challenge to write a list feature on the 5 best upcoming Isekai Anime 2024 as it is my first ever feature article. Nonetheless, I am going to put a clear picture for you all to understand.
Isekai is a Japanese word that translates to “Another World”. A concept that had been explored in Anime in times before the existence of this genre. And now, we are at a point where every year, there’s like 100 isekais to look forward to. Ranging from Trashy to Unfathomable Flavors that none knew could exist. Funnily enough, my Isekai journey… well my official anime journey began with SAO. But my isekai journey began with Re: Zero, which later fueled me to write Musafir. 5 Best Upcoming Isekai Anime 2024: A Brief History Of Isekai
I know I am supposed to share my recommendation of 5 best upcoming Isekai Anime 2024. However, I couldn’t help but share my rendition of the history of Isekai. Feel free to skip it if you want. Starting with Alice in Wonderland, the concept of isekai began in English Literature, and then the Japanese began to use their rendition. Inuyasha, Yu Yu Hakusho – followed the concept when the genre did not exist. Then it went to the scientific realm with Digimon. But it wasn’t until The Vision of Eskaflowne, that made the concept of Isekai into a genre of its own.
Now, the generation of Isekai can be divided into three parts: First generation (The protagonist wishes to return to his own world), Second generation (brings forth the concept of shut-in turned OP Protagonist along with all other tropes of isekai present now) and finally the Third generation (the deconstruction and reconstruction of familiar tropes of isekai genre). I would love to speak about it in more detail, but I don’t have that long. So, I’ll move forward with the 5 best upcoming Isekai Anime 2024.

#5 The New Gate: Now, my anime journey began with SAO. But it could be considered my first isekai journey as well. And like SAO, there had been some good and bad knock-offs, but this caught my attention. Even his clothing is similar to Kirito’s. The story follows Shin, a veteran player of a life-and-death game known as, “The New Gate”. Just as he is about to release every player by killing the last boss, Shin finds himself 500 years into the future. So, is it a good SAO knock-off? Bad SAO knock-off? Let’s find out in the fifth entry of the 5 best upcoming Isekai Anime 2024.
#4 The Wrong Way to Use Healing Magic: No, this is not a spiritual successor to Redo of the Healer, but the plot intrigued me because it had similarities to my story, Musafir. So, I decided the title deserves a spot in the 5 best upcoming Isekai Anime 2024 list. The plot follows a gloomy-socially-detached kid who gets befriended by his class president and vice president, only to be summoned to another world. Uninterested in becoming a hero, the protagonist opts for a quiet life only to realize he possesses a magic that is a hot commodity in the new world he is inhabiting: Healing Magic. Despite his wishes, the protagonist gets thrust into the world of swords and monsters.
#3 Fluffy Paradise: Does anyone remember Slime Isekai? Despite its absurd tagline, the anime did so well that no one expected it. So, how about a cuter version? With loli and fluffy animals. PUT YOUR PHONE DOWN, YOU DON’T NEED TO BRING THE FBI HERE!!! Fluffy Paradise is an upcoming anime about a young woman named Midori who is reincarnated in a fantasy world and granted a special skill. Midori wishes for the ability to communicate and pet all species of animals, but her wish comes with a price. This one definitely deserves a spot in the 5 best upcoming Isekai Anime 2024 list.
#2 No Longer Allowed in Another World: Does anyone remember Isekai Ojisan? The show deconstructed the concept of Isekai. And the fun part is that the ‘Uncle’ happened to return from “Isekai”. Well, the concept flew so well that somebody said, “Let’s do that but darker. Like DC.” That’s exactly what No Longer Allowed in Another World seems to be. A dark comedy and dark fantasy story that follows Osamu Dazai? What? He wishes to die, but the concept of isekai does not allow him. Now that’s a must-watch.
#1 Suicide Squad Isekai: Was there ever any doubt? This title takes the top spot in the 5 best upcoming Isekai Anime 2024 list. The DC x Anime crossover has many people up in flames, and that too in a good way. Tappei Nagatsuki of Re: Zero is involved. The story is focused on sending Task Force X, consisting of Harley Quinn, Deadshot, Peacemaker, Clayface, and King Shark into an alternate reality full of orcs and monsters and having them battle extraterrestrial threats. For some odd reasons, this venture seems like Match-Made-in-Madness-Heaven. And speaking of “Madness”, the Joker is involved in it as well.
Final Words
This seems like a dream topic for me to write about the 5 best upcoming Isekai Anime 2024. I got a chance to write about my favorite genre. And I am happy. But when I was given the chance, I didn’t feel that good because of how oversaturated the genre is. Maybe I got first-hand experience of good anime that allowed me to improve my taste. But as I kept on working, I realized that isekai is not a shitty genre.
I got into isekai because of what it represented, escapism. And that feeling of relatability where you feel like nobody understands you, so you leave it all behind for another world where you’re the best at what you do and you are loved for it. Funnily enough, that is my journey that has been ongoing with the Pop-culture events and Youth Organization side. Abandoning the world that discarded me and appreciating the one that welcomed me. Writing this article made me realize that feeling. And I am thankful for it.
