Prince of Persia 2024 or ‘Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown’ is a thrilling 2.5D platform action-adventure video game that Ubisoft is currently developing and publishing. The game is expected to be available on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X and Series S by January 2024. This is the first addition to the Prince of Persia series since 2010’s “Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands.
“Your journey will not end well. You cannot change your fate, no man can…” Does the quote ring a bell? Yes, you’re not wrong. Most of us who already know the Prince of Persia games already can remember this line or the true terror of the terrible beast DAHAKA by now. Prince of Persia 2024 is coming to give us a satisfying ride down memory lane. Is it really the case though? Certainly wasn’t the case for Sharey Showlo the web series that greatly disappointed me.
The nostalgia of our childhood, Prince of Persia is returning to us after whopping 13 years. Ubisoft recently announced their upcoming project, but with a different title now which is Prince of Persia: The lost crown. The interesting fact about the upcoming game is that you won’t get to play with the iconic Prince Dastan. Ubisoft has gone and done it again. From Assassin’s Creed games with no assassins to a Prince of Persia game with no Prince and this gamble may well prove to be the doom of the epic franchise with Prince of Persia 2024; let’s hope not!
Prince Of Persia 2024 Not A Typical PoP Game?
We’re mostly used to our old favorite protagonist Prince Dastan in Prince of Persia. The amazing parkour, fighting combat. But this time it is going to be different. With a 2.5D interface, Prince of Persia 2024 focuses on side-scrolling actions. The revealed gameplay trailer introduces a new protagonist instead of Prince Dastan, named Sargon. Now, this is quite a drastic change from the theme of the game. Let us hope it works as intended but, I’m quite skeptical.
To rescue Prince Ghassan from his kidnappers, Sargon must embark on a perilous journey to the accursed Mount Qaf. With his exceptional agility, Sargon can nimbly jump, slide, and air dash across various platforms, enabling him to swiftly navigate through obstacles and reach his destination. In addition, he wields a formidable pair of blades that can vanquish his foes in battle. By executing a precise parry at the right moment, Sargon can charge up his Athra’s Glow, a special ability that he can unleash when it reaches its maximum level.
Prince of Persia 2024 looks way different to the original trilogy of the Prince of Persia, with a more cartoonish look. With now a different look in the art style, many are hating the game before releasing. But mostly it might be a one-time play type of game, most of the fans are disappointed by Ubisoft for not giving any info about the much-awaited Prince of Persia Sands of Time remake which was announced back in 2020.
It took the development team around three and a half years to complete Prince of Persia 2024, with Gareth Coker and Mentrix, a composer from Iran, working on the game’s musical score. The game’s concept is drawn from Persian mythology, and director Mounir Radi expressed that the team aimed to bring attention to mythology that may not be widely known. The game also highlights how Persian culture influences other mythologies, as evidenced by the presence of monsters like the Manticore, which serves as one of the game’s boss characters.
The Lost Crown is a standalone game within the Prince of Persia series, not a prequel or sequel. In this game, the antagonist possesses time powers previously seen in The Sands of Time series. The main character, Sargon, is a skilled and agile warrior who performs acrobatics with great speed. The development team aimed to modernize the franchise with Sargon and introduced fresh visual designs inspired by modern and urban culture, as well as fashion.
The Sands Of Time Remake Is Cancelled?
It’s no secret that Ubisoft let down Prince of Persia fans with their announcement of Prince of Persia 2024 aka The Lost Crown. Fans had high hopes for the next installment to be a remake of Sands of Time, which Ubisoft had announced in 2020 with a slated early 2021 release date. However, the game was delayed and no further updates have been given since.
Amidst the unprecedented times of the pandemic of the last couple of years, fans were eagerly anticipating the revival of their beloved nostalgic storyline. However, despite several postponements and a studio switch, there has been a conspicuous silence on the progress of the project. This has led to growing apprehension among fans that the project may be cancelled, which would undoubtedly result in a significant backlash from the disappointed community.
Nonetheless, it is plausible that the project is still in its nascent stages of development, and there is still hope for its eventual release in the future. Prince of Persia’s original mainline story was always a fan favorite especially the Sands of Time and Warrior Within titles. Now, after 13 years of waiting the fans are forced to swallow a spin-off game in the form of Prince of Persia 2024 is sure to leave many with sore throats.
Tough Challenge Ahead For Prince Of Persia The Lost Crown
The forthcoming Prince of Persia 2024 addition to this renowned game franchise need a miracle to satisfy its dedicated fans. Unfortunately, it has already faced criticism for not meeting the expectations of its loyal following. With the lack of updates on the remake of Sands of Time, fans have grown increasingly frustrated, and the announcement of The Lost Crown has only added to their frustration. It is clear that this latest installment will face a daunting challenge in proving its worth to the fans.
The main storyline of the Prince of Persia franchise was progressing smoothly, and fans were excited about the possibility of new titles being released in the future. However, after 2010, the franchise abruptly ceased updates and seemed to be lost. So, Prince of Persia 2024 must prove that the franchise is still alive and well.
This presents a significant opportunity for Ubisoft to demonstrate that the series is still a force to be reckoned with. Although it may be a challenging task, let us hope that Prince of Persia 2024 will be a positive experience for fans. Also, let’s wish that The Lost Crown does not end up being the cause of a lost Prince of Persia game franchise; fingers crossed!
